I have a Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology from the University of British Columbia and I am a Registered SLP in the province of Alberta and with Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC). I have lived in Alberta for over 20 years and have had the opportunity in that time to work clinically, primarily doing assessment work, in a variety of settings including hospitals, private practice, the school system and in research at the University of Alberta.
People are complicated and everyone is different; that is what makes the work I do interesting and rewarding. Throughout my career I have primarily worked with school-age children and young adults who often have questions about why they do the things they do, why they feel socially different from the neurotypical world or are seeking the next logical step in helping themselves and others understand them better from a social perspective.
Outside of being a Speech Language Pathologist I strongly believe and advocate for the therapeutic value of companion animals, particularly dogs. Pet therapy with one of my dogs (now retired) has been a significant part of my out of work life. There are so many positive outcomes from pet therapy from reducing anxiety, encouraging communication and bring people of all ages and communication abilities together.
